Mercedes-Benz has long built some of the industry’s finest luxury cars and in more recent decades, some of the best performance cars through the AMG division. Eager to see how the performance of various Mercedes models has progressed over time, CarWow put in a call to the German brand and was allowed to set 0-60 mph (96 km/h) times in no less than 10 classic models.
The first model featured is one of the most iconic and takes the form of the Mercedes-Benz 300SL. It hits 60 mph in 9.4 seconds, which is very respectable given its age. However, it is not the most expensive car featured in this video, as that honor belongs to a rare Mercedes C111 prototype, one of just 16 examples were ever produced. It is, nevertheless, slightly slower than the 300SL and needs 10.28 seconds to hit 60 mph.
Another really interesting car featured is a Mercedes-Benz 600 Pullman from 1980. It’s a limo that’s not even remotely focused on straight-line performance, so it’s little surprise that it takes a leisurely 17.67 seconds to hit 60 mph.
A plethora of other awesome Mercedes-Benz models are featured, including a classic 300CE 6.0 AMG, better known as the Hammer. Other highlights include a 190E 2.5-16 Evolution from 1990, a rare CLK 63 AMG DTM, a CL65 AMG, and the mighty G500 4×4 which, despite its size, hits 60 mph in an impressive 6.97 seconds.
