Datsun 240Z With Nissan R34 GT-R Engine Coming To Life In Australia

Few Japanese cars are more iconic than the Datsun 240Z (Nissan Fairlady Z in Japan) and even fewer engines from the Land of the Rising Sun are as desirable as the RB26. Bring the two together and you have the makings of a car so cool that it makes Italian supercars seem boring and common.

Marty and Moog from Mighty Car Mods in Australia are currently doing just that and the build is just too epic for us not to share.

The duo didn’t originally intend on making a Skyline R34 GT-R-powered Datsun 240Z. In fact, after the sports car was purchased from Japan, it was going to be shipped Down Under and restored with its factory powertrain. However, strict quarantine laws in Australia made this impossible due to the asbestos found in the original underpinnings.

As a result, the car’s engine, transmission, and brakes had to be removed and left behind in Japan. This opened up the possibility of mating an equally-as-iconic engine into the 240Z’s elongated engine bay.

Rather than creating a 1000 hp monster that’s completely unusable on the street, Mighty Car Mods are instead looking to build a car that combines performance, refinement, and excitement without attracting unwanted attention.

The build is still ongoing but three videos detailing the initial modifications have been released. They are well worth watching.
